Google+ Overload or Back from my travels, Darling.

Hi,

I was one of those folks who had made a migration of interest from Blogging to Google+, and I'm sorry for having neglected my readership for so long.  I intend to make up for it by posting more Urutsk salient information here.

A big part of this transition has been the ARGUS RPG as the platform for Urutsk.  Working on Urutsk in its various parts and products has in one sense diffused the energy so that on the surface it looked as though I wasn't doing anything.  Then with Porphyry's development and the long delay (well worth it, am I right?  :D ), there was added suggestion in some quarters that I had given up on Urutsk.  But now, as is my wont, I have begun to reunify the disparate elements of the rules I've been developing with the large amount of background material into a cohesive whole.

ARGUS (and its predecessor Daedalists & Distraint) has proven that a more traditional game platform can satisfy both me and you the players.  It is flexible enough that what I have written before is not so difficult to adapt (most of which only a few have seen) to the consistent methodology.  Even the roll under but high mechanism of ARGUS has been changed to allow open ended play.  Now that I have made my break with the data glut of G+, I intend on sharing the best bits as I write them.

So, thanks for sticking around; and for the new readers, thanks.  I'll see you very soon.

Another Porphyry Piece

Jez Gordon, digital and layout artist for my Tunnels & Trolls / MSPE sourcebook & supplement, PORPHYRY: World of The Burn has done an homage piece, HERE.

Things are wrapping up on Porphyry, and I'll announce when it is finally available.
The book drips Jez' art, and that is a beautiful thing.  :D

Mayami

+Uri Kurlianchik of Google+ started this with his post about Acre, in Israel

Mayami-

Mayami, in the native tongue meant 'Big Water', but these people are now long vanished.  What few other precursor peoples that still reside in the south of the peninsula dwell in frond houses built up on stilts, out in a reed, sedge, and sawgrass waterway to the west of civilised lands.  With the colonial wars nothing but history, the territory occupied by maritime folk from around the world literally spread at the pace of driving back the floodlands.  Drainage canals, crushed rock dyke roads, and artificial highlands have elevated the dwellings of Northlanders and the multifarious Caribe peoples, although the frequent heavy rains of spring and summer will flood even these.  Racked with summer storms born at sea, Mayami has suffered major disaster regularly throughout its century of habitation, and its people are often dismissive of preparation, but vicious in its aftermath.  The city is but a little over a century and has already come to cover nearly 36 square miles, with a population density of roughly 1,160 persons per square mile.  Its extensdive water channels, rivers, creeks, and ports, as well as its thousands of pond-lakes all teem with avian, piscine, and reptilian life forms, several of which are non-native and invasive species.  The weather year round tends to hover at twenty degrees Farenheit higher than the average continental temperatures, and although it has dropped to freezing more than once, snowfall is unheard of.  Ports bring in and ship out vast cargo each day, and the gleaming cityscape is like an archaeological record, showing earliest styles from the city's founding era all the way through to gleaming towers of steel and glass in improbable shapes and designs.  With this varied terrain and high population density, crime is scattered and ranges from the typical personal disputes to organised crime and gang wars in past decades.  The lead criminal enterprise (apart from land development schemes) is narco-smuggling, for which the local constabulary are most eager to stop, having taken great pains to militarise their efforts and outfit their troopers.  In recent years a series of roving sentinels fly over the city, capable of observing while they are high above, unseen.

2nd Urutsk Daedalists & Distraint, 2nd On Air Hangout

WARNING: This adventure is dark, and sad, and you may be pretty bummed out, or even angry by the end of it.  I feel your pain.  That said, it is a good example of how things in the setting can often be.  Also, my voice is terrible, as always.

Well, there it is.  Thoughts?  Input?

Urutsk Daedalists & Distraint-

Urutsk Early Spring Era, just as folk are beginning to leave the buried ships that served as the redoubts during the two millennial Onyx Battle competing with other Vrun ship-cities, non-Humans starfarers, and indigenous species and peoples.  The PCs: A Scout, a Cavalier from an Imperial family, an Aelbaan Sorceress, and a Monk

They see the outdoors for the first time, and as part of their promised and well-financed Emergence, are brought to dragonelles with whom they bond.  Now able to explore the burgeoning green of a seeded planet scoured clean by the Scourge of the exploded Galactic Core, the PCs fly just over the 'hills' and begin exploring a wetlands area, runoff from a glittering black mountain.  A couple of legless, tri-jawed river reptiles attacked, but were sorted out.  Entry to the black mountain found and explored.  Dryvv ship/structure.  PCs step through a relay frame into a population centre.  Game hold.
